We currently have an opening for a Nursery Department Manager based in Northern
California.
This position is responsible for managing all aspects of the Contract Nursery
relationships, all Nursery Department planning, and all Nursery logistics.
This position supervises the Nursery Supervisor, Trim and Logistics as well as
the Nursery Manager, Ballico Facility/Field Representative.
Job Qualifications: Position requires reliability, attention to
detail, teamwork, leadership, critical thinking, problem solving, excellent
verbal and written communication skills, and creativity. Must have the
ability to work cross-functionally. Intermediate computer skills in MS
Excel, Word, and Outlook. B.S. degree in Business Agriculture, Business
Administration or related field, or equivalent experience is necessary.
Five years business management experience in a leadership role desired.
Must be able to work an extended schedule to support operational requirements.
Occasional international travel required; valid US Passport, California Driver’s
License and eligibility for company vehicle insurance required. This
position requires frequent travel (25 to 40% depending on operational needs).
Bilingual communication skills (English/Spanish) preferred.
Responsibilities:
Supervise the Nursery Supervisor: Trim and Logistics.
Supervise the Nursery Manager: Ballico Facility/Field Representative.
Contract Nursery: Responsible for all aspects of Contract Nursery relationships and operations in the US and Canada including but not limited to: contract nursery planning, price negotiation, field monitoring, land use, cultural practices, planting, and harvest scheduling.
Planning: Responsible for insuring that sufficient nursery plants are available to meet short-term and long-term strategic goals of the company through nursery planning including but not limited to: preparing and implementing long and short term planting plans, harvest plans, trim capacity, trim labor, and logistic plans.
Logistics: Responsible for directing the management of the Ballico Facility, plant trim, plant storage, plant logistics, plant certification program, foreign plant shipments, and the Plant Distribution System.
Responsible for Driscoll’s owned land and resources that are leased to Contract Nurseries.
Responsible for capturing all production data and cost analysis related to growing plants.
Direct the preparation of and adherence to the following budgets: Strawberry Trim, Raspberry Trim, Ballico Facility, and Contract Nursery.
Visit and build relationships with Driscoll’s fruit growers.
Assist as needed with Driscoll’s International Nursery operations in Europe and Mexico.
Mission and Values: Work both internally and externally with employees, growers, and vendors to support and promote the Company Mission and Values.
Conduct: Follow Company policies and practices while representing Driscoll’s in an ethical and business-like manner.
Other: Perform other duties as instructed by the Director of Nursery Operations.
