Job Title: Grower / Assistant Manager

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: The Grower / Assistant Manager at Skagit Horticulture CA is responsible for the care of all plant material grown at the facility and for the leadership, and training, of the section growers. Care of plant material includes: water/fertility and media monitoring and management, control of environmental conditions of the crop, scouting for pests and diseases, application of routine pesticides, growth regulators and record keeping.
Responsibilities include the follow:
- Monitor fertilization levels of the crop and apply fertilizers as needed
- Routinely test media EC and pH levels and keep current records of results
- Monitor crops for nutrient problems and take appropriate actions when necessary
- Monitor and manage environmental conditions of all indoor and outdoor growing areas
- Check crops for readiness and to be able to respond to crop delays or earliness in a timely manner
- Communicate crop health to others in the company
- Determine control measures for pest problems
- Plan pesticide rotations for crops
- Maintain crops within agreed upon standards
- Train and maintain required records for pesticide safety training of handlers and fieldworkers
- Obtain and maintain California State Private Applicator status
- Stay current with new chemicals, application methods, and regulations
- Maintain concise and timely records of pertinent crop information: crop schedules, chemical and PGR applications, protocols,
- Maintain records in an approved form that is readily accessible to others in the company
- Work with transplant supervisor to find the best possible space available for crops
Skills and Requirements
- Able to read, understand and comply with regulatory pesticide record keeping and SDS sheets
- Experience with authoring Standard Operating Procedures, KPIs and Lean
Required / Preferred Qualifications:
- Back ground in horticulture, plant science or farming preferred
- Candidate should have strong people and problem-solving skills
- Experience in Lean process is preferred
- Collaborative team member
- Bilingual English/ Spanish preferred
- Basic competency in Microsoft office
- Basic competency in ERP and time keeping record management
