The Research Technologist is a key member of the research and development department, the research technologist will assist with new product development and process improvement projects; perform independent research; plans, designs and implements research projects to meet established targets; assists in shelf life determination and development of product specifications and contributes to new product development and process improvement ideas.

EDUCATION:

• BS in Food Science or equivalent in education plus 3 years minimum product development experience

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Independently determine and write experimental designs to capture all data necessary in the development of new products and process improvements.

• Performs shelf life/raw material evaluations, and assists in determining methodology of evaluating for new products and existing products.

• Provides training to quality and production on evaluation methods and details of new products and/or product improvements.

• Manages and maintains competitor study programs.

• Performs various clerical duties including compiling of data and data entry, data analysis (using statistical methods), recording of research procedures and results; files and maintains records and the writing of final reports and recommendations.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

• Knowledge of laboratory procedures

• Knowledge of the fresh cut industry (desired but not required)

• Knowledge of sensory science and applications

• Experience with statistical methods and analysis

• Experience with the product development process

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions

• Ability to work independently and within a cross-functional team

• Ability to tend to details

• Ability to maintain records and inventories

• Ability to operate a personal computer with advance knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
