Your Role: The Safety and Food Safety Coordinator will be responsible for promoting a safety-first culture and help to ensure a successful food safety program.

Your Impact: 

  • Maintain a presence at field locations, conduct daily crew inspections and provide employees with an opportunity to discuss any matter relating to safety and food safety.
  • Ensure that safety and food safety programs and activities are in compliance with local, state, and federal laws and Company policies.
  • Review and update all required postings.
  • Provide topics for Safety Meetings and randomly observe ‘Tailgate’ Safety Meetings.
  • Routinely inspect all equipment and vehicles regarding safety conditions.
  • Ensure ‘lock – out, tag – out’ procedures are being followed.
  • Collaborate with Management regarding preventing workplace injuries and mitigating risk.
  • Monitor all Workers’ Compensation injuries, determine causal circumstances, and chart a course of action to minimize or eliminate reoccurrences.
  • Meet injured employees at doctor or hospital, assist with necessary paperwork, and make appropriate reports.
  • Inspect and maintain all First Aid Kits.
  • Oversee Pesticide Worker Protection Training.
  • Ensure that all trucks and buses have proper safety inspection and registration.
  • Complete crew sign up and orientations.
  • Relocate to Yuma, Arizona and Salinas, CA dependent on business needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the Company’s HRMS, Safety, and Food Safety applications.
  • Current drivers license.

Your Education and Experience:

  • At minimum, an Associate Degree with an emphasis in Agriculture, Safety or Food Safety or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training that would provide the level of knowledge and ability required for the position.

Your Language Skills: 

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and a professional manner with all Company employees, including general labor, administrative, supervisory and management employees and external stakeholders.
  • Must be bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish.

Your Mathematical Skills: 

  • Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide; apply concepts of basic algebra; and interpret graphs, charts, and tables.

Other:

  • Travel required, about 30%.
  • Requires working outside normal business hours and weekends.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment: 

  • Prolonged periods of driving Company vehicle.
  • Outside work requires walking, standing in fields in all weather conditions.
  • Light to moderate lifting (up to 40 pounds).
  • Reaching, stooping, pulling, pushing and manual dexterity.
  • Operating a computer, calculator, copier, and typewriter involves repetitive hand arm movement.
  • Must be able to visit all Company departments and environments, including, office, field, shop, etc.
  • Entering data by touch requires the ability to hear computer alarms for errors.
  • Stays at hotel/motel for indeterminate periods of time.
  • Drives or boards domestic flights to Company locations, as necessary.
  • Must be able to handle multi-tasks and work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to interact politely with outside customers and vendors.
  • Communication with other staff members involves making contact orally, via the telephone, electronic email or in person.
