Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The System Administrator is located at the company’s headquarters in Castroville, California. The position reports to and supports the Senior Systems Administrator. As part of the IT Department the System Administrator is responsible supporting and maintaining the Ocean Mist Farms computing environment, databases and its related applications. A primary role is Citrix/VMWare administration. This role also includes Windows Active Directory and applicable services, SQL databases, and general business applications and industry focus applications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform installation, configure, monitor, and maintain servers, databases, applications and backup and recovery of the systems and data;
  • Assist with the install, configure and maintain servers, operating systems, utilities, thin client environment, email & messaging environment, file server and applications installed on the servers to provide a reliable and secure computing environment;
  • Perform and manage backups of servers and critical systems;
  • Assist with installing, configuring and maintaining desktop PCs and various endpoint devices, assist with network equipment, printers, IP enabled IoT devises;
  • Assist with the monitoring of the entire computer environmental stack and the Data Center environment;
  • Responsible for adhering to good IT business practices such as Software Development;
  • Life Cycle (SDLC), Change Management and Work Orders;
  • Responsible for gathering and documenting requirements, designs, implementation plans, test plans, and System Development documentation;
  • Responsible for defining and adhering to the preventative maintenance plans, system configuration and server security Best Practices standards, and other good system management practices;
  • Assist the IT Director and Senior System Administrator in defining compute architecture plans and needs to select technology and products that will support the Enterprise computing architecture;
  • Assist with the software license management;
  • Provide excellent customer service to employees of all levels of the organization related to hardware and software problems.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate’s Degree in computer science or related specialty preferred but not required
  • The desired candidate should have five or more years of progressive experience in systems administration, preferably in Citrix/VMware;
  • MSCE preferred but not required.
  • Proven expertise in the following areas:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing Windows Server and managing Active Directory and services
    • Minimum of 5 years working with Windows desktop Operating System
    • Minimum of 5 years managing Citrix/VMWare and server virtualization
    • Minimum of 3 years managing Relational Databases; 3 years Microsoft 365 Administration experience
    • Microsoft Share Point experience a plus; Microsoft OneDrive experience a plus
    • SAN disk storage system experience a plus
  • Position may require being on call based on business demands and includes some weekend and holiday work;
  • Desired candidate possesses outstanding customer service skills and experience working with hardware and software vendors to resolve problems;
  • Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team;
  • Identify and resolve complex technical and business process problems;
  • Able to work in a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment;
  • Assist with multiple high visibility projects.
  • Ability to carry out defined procedures and duties with specific instructions; ability to learn new duties with minimal repetition;
  • Travel on company business as required by management.
  • In-office presence is expected 1-2 days per week after a probationary period of 90 days
  • Some weekend and holiday work expected. Position may require working on short notice to resolve system issue.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, customers and peers.
