Job description


The Ranch Accounting Manager position is responsible for managing accounting/administrative staff and providing information, primarily financial in nature, about ranch activities that will assist ranch and company management in making educated economic decisions about ranch operations.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversee the activities of ranch accounting for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial information including, but not limited to, crop accounting, inventory, etc.
  • Oversee activities of ranch accounting/administrative staff, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of purchase orders, accounts payable and receivable, payroll/contract labor, cash control, and crop production reports.
  • Analyze accounting records to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standards defined within the department.
  • Maintain, review, and report all ranch general ledger accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions while resolving any discrepancies.
  • Prepare and enter journal entries including correcting entries, allocating expenditures, etc.
  • Assist with quarterly and year-end closing of books.
  • Maintain and review cost analyses for ranch crops and commodities and assist with the development of crop and capital budgets.
  • Train and mentor ranch accounting/administrative staff and assist in the recruitment of new team members when necessary.
  • Protect organization's value by keeping sensitive information confidential.


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or finance
  • At least five years of experience in the accounting field
  • Experience in the agriculture industry preferred but not required
  • Experience with Famous software preferred but not required
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong analytical and accounting skills
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook or similar programs
  • Able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on difficult, new tasks
