Reports to:  Blueberry Crop Manager

Location:  Orland and Stockton, CA

Days/Hours:  Normally up to ten hours a day/six days a week as needed. Varies with season.

Night work is required during harvest.  Occasional additional will be required. 

Supervises: Daily operations including all equipment, employees, and production requirements.

Summary:

This is a full-time permanent position for a hands-on field level individual working in a team-oriented environment who is responsible for assisting the current Blueberry Manager with coordinating and supervising day to day operations on 220 organic acres of producing blueberry operations located near Orland and Stockton, CA.

The incumbent will be responsible at both locations for assisting/supervising tractor drivers, irrigators, spray and fertilizer applications, and harvest operations at night or day to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and successfully meeting company and customer expectations.  The incumbent shall embrace and comply with company policies, procedures, and customer program requirements including organic certification, employee safety, and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).

Responsibilities: Assist Blueberry Manager in the following:

  • Lead, direct, train, and communicate with field employees and supervisors daily.
  • Follow directions, work independently, work well with others, and use good judgement.
  • Accurate, timely, and complete record keeping and reporting on day to day operations utilizing software for time and attendance, field operations software, and inventory control.
  • Work closely with pest control and organic advisors to maximize production and ensure compliance to organic standards and buyer quality requirements.
  • Arrange and procure equipment, materials, tools, PPE, labor, fertilizers, and pesticides for both locations with guidance from Manager.
  • Participate in budgeting processes and determining the most cost-effective use of personnel and equipment to meet production and quality goals.
  • Ensure and enforce that employees are following company/legally mandated safety and work policies and procedures including GAP and organic certification.
  • Conduct and/or assist with safety training and complete documentation.
  • Supervise tractor drivers, irrigators, spray and fertilizer applications, and harvest operations.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Able to obtain a Pesticide Applicators Certificate or Qualified Pesticide Applicators License.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability under company policies.
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish helpful, but not required.
  • Experience with organic cropping systems preferred.
  • Experience with automated irrigation, fertilizer and water treatment systems preferred.
  • Computer literate in Windows based systems.
