Job description

The payroll specialist position is accountable for all aspects of weekly completion of the field payroll for Alta Vista Farms, LP. (AVF), along with all ancillary tasks and requirements to remain in full federal, state and local compliance with all applicable rules, regulations and tax codes.

Responsibilities (Job Duties):

  • Perform daily payroll department operations.
  • Compilation and processing of a weekly payroll ranging from 60 to 900 employees at peak season.
  • Understand proper taxation of employer paid benefits.
  • Process correct garnishment calculations and compliance.
  • Process accurate and timely year-end and quarterly reporting when necessary (W-2, W-2c, 1094, 1095).
  • Maintenance and improvements to payroll data collection systems originating from the field.
  • Taking ownership of data collection systems, their functionality and usefulness to the company’s field operations.
  • Auditing and maintaining accurate records of payroll.
  • Ensure timely completion and accuracy of all payments, including tax and garnishment payments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • 2 – 4 years experience working with payroll systems or a B.S.
  • Bi-lingual is required (English/Spanish).
  • High degree of professionalism.
  • Ability to deal sensitively with confidential materials.
  • Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills.
  • Decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills.

 

Other:

  • Hourly admin position, working under wage order 4.
  • 40+ hrs. per week .
  • Primarily normal office hours, some evening or weekend work is possible.
  • Position reports directly to Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).
  • Indirectly reports to General Manager and Controller.
  • Independent worker, ability to make decisions without oversight.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary dependent on experience and performance.
  • Employer paid health insurance, for employee only.
  • Vacation - One week: upon initial eligibility. - Two weeks: years 2 to 10. - Three weeks: years 11 plus.
  • Sick - Lump sum of 40 hours, “up-front” each calendar year on January 1st
  • Holidays - 8 paid holidays per calendar year plus a paid 2 week (10 work-day) holiday closure (approximately December 23 to January 3).
