Job description

Smith Gardens Inc. is looking for an Account Manager to lead our team servicing one of our top 3 national accounts in the Live Goods industry. In our fast-paced environment, the Account Manager is responsible for driving the customer’s garden center business both strategically and financially. The position requires that you develop a close partnership with the customer with a focus on optimizing spring program execution.  The goal is to make our customer happy by increasing sales and margin year over year, making a degree in (or love for) horticulture a huge plus!

If you're the right fit, you’re a people-person who’s as great at communicating with customers and giving presentations as you are evaluating sales strategy and developing new programs. Additionally, you like traveling to trade events and networking with your peers and customers in this unique industry.

This position is located in beautiful Bellingham, Washington, where Smith Gardens first sprouted in 1901. THE DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Build strong relationships with our buyers/merchants and key customer contacts
  • Drive retail scans by optimizing product assortment and analyzing sales growth, sell-through and contribution margins
  • Work closely with production and product development teams to develop and launch new customer programs
  • Develop program presentations and line reviews for customer meetings
  • Negotiate and submit annual price increases on existing products as well as pricing for new products and programs
  • Develop and present plans and forecasts for review with our Executive VP and President
  • Oversee weekly execution of program during season and make adjustments as necessary
  • Act as the direct report for Field Sales Manager and Sales Coordinator

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of six years of horticultural industry experience
  • Degree in horticulture or extensive plant knowledge is preferred
  • History or experience in account management is a plus
  • Strong, positive interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to create and deliver professional, persuasive presentations to customers
  • Self-motivation, independent thinking and ability to prioritize and manage ever-changing priorities (every day is a little different here, and that’s how we like it)
  • Strong analytical and negotiations skills
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Desire and willingness to travel frequently
  • Desire to work within a strong, collaborative team always looking to achieve common goals
