Title: Chief Financial Officer

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

FLSA Status: Exempt
Division:* Accounting

Direct Reports: Accounting Staff

Position Overview:

The Chief Financial Officer reports directly to the President and Chief Operating Officer. As a key member of the Executive Management team, the Chief Financial Officer assumes a strategic role in the overall management of the company. The CFO has primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial related activities of the company. This includes direct responsibility for accounting, finance, forecasting, tax, deal analysis and negotiations, institutional financing, risk management and pension administration.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and development for the continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
  • Assume a key leadership role for process improvement initiatives (Lean Six Sigma).
  • Ensure credibility of the Finance group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts.
  • Establish hands-on role in Company’s Sales, Operations and Planning System replacement project.
  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of long range planning, and introduction of new programs/ strategies.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives to identify their needs, and seek full range of business solutions.
  • Provide executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities.
  • Manage processes for financial forecasting, budgets, and consolidation and reporting to the Company.
  • Provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
  • Direct and oversee all aspects of the finance & accounting, tax and pension administration functions of the organization.
  • Other duties as assigned by the President & COO.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access various departments of a given location.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in database and accounting computer application systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Substantial accounting and finance knowledge and prior experience in a high volume food, agriculture or manufacturing company is desired.
  • Proven track record of increased responsibility through a finance organization.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP, US and CA taxation rules.
  • Solid understanding of cost accounting, margin analysis and the ability to develop a system of management cost reports.
  • Knowledge and expertise in FAMOUS (Payroll & Accounting software)
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, electronic mail, FAMOUS, Google Apps, Smartsheet, Evernote and other word and spreadsheet programs.

Education and Experience:

  • Masters degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance required.
  • Certified Public Accountant designation preferred.
  • Eight to ten years of experience in financial management required.
  • 7 to 10 years management experience in a high-growth environment.
  • BS/BA in Accounting, Finance, Economics or equivalent is required
  • CPA, CMA or MBA preferred.
  • Proficiency in the English language, verbal and written and ability to communicate with team members and inter-company personnel.
