Job description

Organically Grown Company is seeking a full time Warehouse Lead for our Receiving Department in our Portland, OR facility.  Founded in 1978, Organically Grown Company (OGC) is the largest organic produce distributor in the Pacific Northwest. Primary Job Functions:

  • Accurately performs and leads receiving functions: 
    • Plans for expected product and prepares space. 
    • Oversees and coordinates receiving of all scheduled shipments to ensure accurate and timely handling of receiving records.  Assigns warehouse staff as appropriate.
    • Ensures that all Receivers follow established SOPs; Ensures appropriate staff is designated to properly rotate new stock—following SOPs
    • Maintain cold chain custody
  • Accurately performs and leads replenishing functions:
    • Makes sure that all product needed is in a pick location; 
    • Ensures that forklift operators move product down and racks product when requested.
  • Leads daily warehouse pre-shift communication meetings; establishes and maintains expectations of all crew members. 
  • Follows up with employees on a regular basis to provide positive feedback and constructive criticism when necessary.
  • Assigns tasks to Warehousers to ensure available labor is properly distributed for the daily workload. 
  • Monitors and report defective equipment and hazardous conditions immediately;
  • Communicates with appropriate staff concerning any irregularities involving trucking, staffing, receiving, quality, safety, etc.
  • Maintains GMP and GFSI standards for warehouse, self and team, including complying with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements such as hair/beard nets, gloves, steel-toed boots, etc. as well as personal hygiene standards.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of and compliance with OGC workplace safety rules and policies.  This includes proper reporting of all accidents.

Required Education, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs on occasion, with regular lifting of 40lbs to 50lbs required.
  • High school diploma or GED plus a minimum of 2 years related work experience and knowledge of produce varieties, preferably in a warehouse or logistics environment.
  • Skilled at shipping, receiving and storage of produce, warehouse safety, basic understanding of the product line, post-harvest handling food safety/GMP, the seasonal dynamics that impact operations, customer expectations.
  • Previous experience using a computer consistently on the job, preferably Microsoft Products, Priya and Produce Pro. Must have ability to train others to use software.
  • Must be able to safely drive forklift equipment, or have the ability to learn safe forklift driving skills.
  • Lead or supervisory experience preferred. Invoicing, Receiving, and Shipping experience also preferred.
  • Knowledge of produce handling and food safety requirements including GFSI & GMP.
  • General computer knowledge and ability to utilize email systems.

Our Receiving Department operates from 6:30am to 5:00pm, seven days per week and on certain days/in certain seasons later hours may be necessary.
