Job Description:  Assist plant breeders and research staff in all phases of vegetable variety development work.  

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Planting field variety trials by hand or machine.
• Planting greenhouse increases.
• Transplanting into pots or field.
• Irrigation and or greenhouse watering, including weekends.
• Plant maintenance including pruning, trimming, fertilizing, staking and tying, monitoring plant diseases, spraying, scouting for insects, predatory insect dispersal, and record keeping.
• Hand pollinations and flower tagging of lettuce, brassicas, and others.
• Work independently and protect and maintain integrity of each lot or plant while hand harvesting of seed, cleaning harvesting equipment, seed cleaning, labeling, packaging, inventory and storage.
• Travel to alternate work sites including but not limited to the Salinas Valley, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara and San Benito counties, the San Joaquin Valley, Imperial Valley, Yuma, AZ and Washington State using company owned or rental vehicles.
• May be required to work unusual hours and weekends.
• Perform general maintenance and repairs
• Make seed deliveries as necessary.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Agricultural related degree (Plant Science, Botany)
• Computer skills (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint preferred)
• Ability to communicate proficiently in English and interact with all levels of the organization

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• Drive a forklift.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish)
