Scaroni Family of Companies

Company Info:

The Scaroni Family of Companies was founded in 1984 by Steve and Brenda Scaroni. The Scaroni Family has been involved with production agriculture in the United States since the early 1900’s.

Generation One: In 1911, Stephano and May Scaroni immigrated from Gordola, Switzerland to the United States and settled in the Imperial Valley(Heber, CA) on the original “Scaroni Home Ranch.” Stephano was a dairyman and a farmer by trade. Many Swiss natives immigrated to the Imperial Valley during this time period. The unrelenting heat and other factors made the early years very difficult, but through steadfast resolve, the Imperial Valley was settled and became a lucrative farming area.

Generation Two: Stanley Scaroni was born in 1922 to Swiss Immigrants Stephano and May Scaroni. Stanley, like many born into farming families, worked on the family farm. Stanley was also actively involved in Future Farmers of America (FFA), achieving its highest honor of “American Farmer.” Stanley expanded the original family farming operation growing flat crops such as alfalfa, wheat, sugar beets and cotton. Stanley married Valerie Lewis in 1953. Together they were farmers and also owners of the historic Don Juan Motel in downtown Calexico, California. Stanley will always be remembered as a kind man who truly loved his family, farming and a good glass of red wine.

Generation Three: Steve Scaroni was born in 1957. Steve grew up on the same ranch his family settled on when they came from Switzerland. Steve, like his father and grandfather loved farming. Steve worked on the ranch from a very young age. During high school, Steve began farming his own crops on nights and weekends. After high school, Steve went to work for other local agriculture businesses, while continuing to farm on the side. The time spent working for operations outside of the family taught Steve many lessons and skills that would serve him well when he went into business for himself. Steve and wife Brenda, founded Valley Harvesting & Packing in 1983. Steve’s work ethic and drive for success soon made Valley Harvesting & Packing the premier custom harvesting business in the leafy green industry. In early 2000, Steve and longtime vendor Fresh Express, developed the Core-In-The-Field (CIF) Harvest Process. This process is now an industry standard. In 2005, Steve anticipated the need for a diversified raw product source away from the United States, and founded Harvest Tek de México, which also allowed Steve to return to his passion of farming vegetables.

Generation Four: Matt and David Scaroni were born in 1983 and 1986 to Steve and Brenda Scaroni. They grew up in the same house and on the same ranch their great grandfather built. In their early years, they traveled with their father Steve to follow the summer melon harvest. After college, both Matt and David came back to work for the company. Matt works on the production side of business and David works on the logistics and supply chain management part of the business.
